Peter is an actor who always delivers. He has fine comic timing an innate charm and warmth which he brings to both dramatic and comedic roles. He has an ability to be bold with his choices (witness his recent work on the Spartacus US mini-series prequel, 2010). In recent years he has developed some really interesting quirks and comedic skills, evidenced in such characters as Angus in Black Sheep (NZ FF 2006) and Mayor Jackson in Amazing Extraordinary friends (NZ TV 2007). Along with this increased versatility he is also capable of delivering strong dramatic performances, such as in Siege (NZ tele-movie, 2012).
Peter has worked or trained with Cicely Berry (RSC), Robert Benedetti (Film producer/ Theatre Director), Rob Marchant (TV/Film Director and proponent of the Mike Leigh ‘method’), Dean Carey (Director, Actors Centre Australia), Tom McSweeney (Casting director) and Miranda Harcourt, and uses elements of all their approaches in his teaching. Peter is a published author, magazine writer, and has worked as a casting director for TV and as a presenter trainer at TVNZ.
Since 2001 - in Australia and New Zealand - Peter has taught acting. In 2005 he directed and acted in the play Milo’s Wake, touring in 2006 throughout NZ. Peter’s screenplay from the play is now in development. His one man show A Night with Beau Tyler toured NZ in 2008 & 2009 to over 30 centres around NZ.
Peter has an Honours degree in Politics & History from the University of Melbourne and a Dip. Drama from the University of Auckland. He was Nominee for Best Actor, 2003 NZ Film Awards.
